One of the very important tasks concerning
mining is to make sure that all underground areas are sufficiently supplied with
fresh air. The aim is to make it possible for the miners to work under
acceptable conditions, to cool down the air and to avoid firedamp explosions by
reducing the methane concentration in the air underground. Here you can see a map from 1934. Based on such maps the colliery plans how the air
has to be led in order
to supply all roadways, gateroads, mining areas etc. with it.
Special thanks to
Arno Hoffmann for sending me the
CD with the photos. If the - pitily unknown - photographer does not want the
pictures to be published here, please send me an
e-mail.
